Privacy Policy
How personal data is handled on this website, under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR, Regulation (EU) 2016/679) and Italian data protection law.
1. Who we are
This Privacy Policy applies to the website languagecafe.it (the “Website”). The data controller, meaning the person responsible for your personal data, is:
You can write to us at eflannelly@luiss.it about anything concerning your personal data.
2. The short version
- The Website has no accounts for visitors, no analytics, no advertising and no social-media or tracking tools.
- It sets no cookies for visitors (see our Cookie Policy).
- We only receive personal data if you contact us, or if you appear on the Website as a team member or in a photo, with your consent.
3. What data we process, why, and for how long
- Browsing data. When you open the Website, our hosting provider automatically handles the technical data needed to deliver the pages and keep them secure: your IP address, the date and time, the address requested, and browser and device information. Purpose: showing the Website, keeping it secure and preventing abuse. Legal basis: our legitimate interest (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). We do not use this data to identify visitors. It is kept by the hosting provider only for the short periods set by its own policies.
- Messages and requests. If you write to us (for example by email, by phone, on Instagram, or with the “Ask to join” button, which opens your email program), we use what you tell us, such as your name, contact details and message, to reply and to organise clubs and events. Legal basis: replying to your request (Art. 6(1)(b)) and our legitimate interest in running the cafe (Art. 6(1)(f)). We keep it for as long as needed to deal with your request and afterwards only as long as the law requires or to protect our rights.
- Team members. The “Meet the team” page shows each person’s name, position, where they are from, the languages they speak, a short description and, if they wish, a photo. This is published only with the person’s consent (Art. 6(1)(a)). It stays online until the person withdraws consent or leaves the team. Anyone can ask us to change or remove their entry at any time.
- Photos. Photos in the gallery or on event pages show recognisable people only where they have agreed or been told in advance and where the law allows. Photos in which children can be recognised are published only with a parent’s or guardian’s consent. If you appear in a photo and want it removed, write to us and we will remove it as soon as possible.
- Administrator area. The people who manage the Website sign in to update it. For this we process the administrator’s username, a securely scrambled form of the password (never the password itself), the IP address and the number of recent failed sign-in attempts (to stop password guessing), and a sign-in session that lasts at most 12 hours. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in protecting the Website (Art. 6(1)(f)). Records of failed sign-in attempts are deleted automatically within 24 hours.
4. What we do not do
- We do not sell your data.
- We do not profile visitors or take automated decisions about them.
- We do not use analytics, advertising, social-media plug-ins or any content loaded from other companies. All fonts, pictures and code are served from the Website itself.
5. Who receives your data
- Hosting and security provider: Cloudflare, Inc., which delivers the Website and stores its content and database. It acts on our behalf as a data processor. The content database is located in Europe.
- Email and telephone providers that we use to communicate with you.
- Our authorised team members and volunteers, who see personal data only as far as their work requires.
- Public authorities, where the law requires it.
6. Transfers outside the European Economic Area
Because Cloudflare is an international company, some technical data (such as the IP address) may be processed outside the European Economic Area, including in the United States. Such transfers rely on safeguards recognised by EU law, such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.
7. Your rights
You have the right to:
- access your personal data and receive a copy (Art. 15);
- have inaccurate data corrected (Art. 16);
- have your data erased (Art. 17);
- restrict the use of your data (Art. 18);
- receive your data in a portable format (Art. 20);
- object to processing based on our legitimate interest (Art. 21);
- withdraw your consent at any time, without affecting what was done before (Art. 7(3)).
To use any of these rights, write to eflannelly@luiss.it. We will answer within one month, as the law requires.
8. Complaints
If you think your data is not being handled properly, you can lodge a complaint with the Italian data protection authority, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali, or with the authority of your own EU country.
9. Children
The Website is not aimed at children and does not collect data from them. Some events are for children, with their parents or guardians. Any arrangements for children are made with the adults, using the contact details on the Website.
10. Security
The Website is served only over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection. Passwords are never stored, only a salted and secretly keyed scrambled form of them. Access to the administrator area is limited to authorised people and is protected against password guessing.
11. Changes to this policy
If the way the Website handles personal data changes, we will update this page and the date below. Last updated: 15 October 2026.

Base giuridica: rispondere alla tua richiesta (art. 6, par. 1, lett. b) e il nostro legittimo interesse a gestire il locale (art. 6, par. 1, lett. f).
6, par. 1, lett. a).

7. I tuoi diritti
Hai il diritto di:
- accedere ai tuoi dati personali e riceverne una copia (art. 15);
- ottenere la rettifica dei dati inesatti (art. 16);
- ottenere la cancellazione dei tuoi dati (art. 17);
- ottenere la limitazione del trattamento (art. 18);
- ricevere i tuoi dati in un formato portabile (art. 20);
- opporti al trattamento fondato sul nostro legittimo interesse (art. 21);
- revocare il consenso in qualsiasi momento, senza pregiudicare quanto fatto prima (art. 7, par. 3).
